Smooth finished concrete has a kind of classical look in appearance and can subtly enhance the appearance of your property with it's non-busy effect.
Let's look deeper
How is smooth finish concrete done?
After the sub-grade and ground base is prepared and compacted and the reinforcing steel (rebar) and wood forming materials are set up, the concrete is placed in the very same way as any concrete job; by placing, screeding, and troweling the concrete. to a smooth finish.
A slight difference to a regular concrete project is though, with a smooth finish, the crew will spend extra time trowelling, sealing the surface and removing imperfections in the concrete surface, often 2-3 times and on occasion using knee boards.
The end result is a prestine, smooth surface which will highlight and compliment your surrounding landscape due to it's non-busy effect.
How can I spice up the appearance a little?
A process which goes hand in hand with a smooth finish job is using a diamond blade to saw cut the relief joints veruses the standard methods of using a skate or cutter trowel. This gives the finished look crisp and classic looking touch.
Adding color to the concrete mix is another way to spice up the appearance of a smooth finished job. Just in the same way as a stamped concrete finish, you can choose from a multitude of color pigments to be added to the concrete mix which in the end will dramatically enhance the appearance and add a highlight to the overall look of your property.
Where else is smooth finished concrete used?
The second most common place where smooth finished concrete is used is for garage floors and floors in a home or apartment building.
The reason, in the case of a garage floor, is because you would want to clean the concrete off easily and not have dirt stuck into the grooves of a broom finished job, as example. The reason for floors in a home or commcerial building is so tile, carpet, laminate, or hardwood can be installed properly on a leveled smooth finish.
Additionally, a "power trowel" is commonly used on garage floors and building floors to tighten up the surface and to give the surface an ultra "glass" smooth finish, which makes cleaning a snap.
